Big declines in Atlantic Salmon leads to questions about what happens out at sea Nature

Concerns about the big decline of the iconic Atlantic Salmon in Britain's river systems are leading scientists to investigate what happens to this iconic fish while it's out to sea, with, on average, only 3% of fish leaving the river returning to spawn and this figure has regularly dropped below 1%. If the decline continues, wild Atlantic salmon will disappear from UK rivers in the next 30 years.

SYMPATEX LAUNCHES 100% CO2-NEUTRAL TEXTILE MEMBRANE

Sympatex Technologies will introduce the "guaranteed green" Sympatex membrane, which is produced in a completely climate-neutral way for the first time at the Munich trade show ISPO 2017 (5th - 8th February 2017).

Sympatex Dr Ruediger Fox The ecological alternative among functional textile specialists will compensate the CO2 amount of its entire yearly membrane production, starting from 2017, through respective climate protection certificates. It will do this in cooperation with the Munich-based consultancy ClimatePartner via internationally certified climate protection projects such as supporting African forestry.

The material basis of the highly functional membrane is the Sympatex copolymer, a compound of polyester and polyether molecules. The company and its partner DSM have managed to achieve a 50% reduction of CO2* during the production of a Sympatex copolymer in comparison with a PTFE polymer.

"To produce our 100% recyclable 'guaranteed green' Sympatex membrane in a climate-neutral way is the next logical step for us regarding our sustainability strategy," explains Dr. Rüdiger Fox, CEO Sympatex Technologies.

"It has always been part of our DNA to already solve ecological challenges while some people still try to strongly deny their existence. Against this background, we are very happy to support the ClimatePartner project, which protects essential forests in Kenya and also contributes to society by promoting a sustainable textile production in this country."
