Smurfit Kappa's Townsend Hook paper mill in South East England has introduced a new drying process innovation to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

Households reliant on oven cooking could save up to £604 per year by switching to a more energy efficient cooking methods, according to new research by energy supplier Utilita. Joining together with frozen food retailer Iceland, the pair are embarking on a partnership that aims to help those struggling with the rising cost of living, by offering practical solutions and advice on how to save money.

Commenting on reports that Russian troops have seized control of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine after a fire broke out at the site following shelling from Russian forces, Greenpeace UK interim executive director Pat Venditti said: "Greenpeace is deeply alarmed by reports of Russian military forces engaging with Ukrainian security at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine last night. Greenpeace condemns in the strongest terms possible the deliberate attack of Russian military personnel on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station and the citizens of the nearby city of Enerhodar.

A new 40-metre illuminated tower has been constructed in Manchester city centre marking the development of the city's new low carbon heating and electricity network. The new landmark, named 'The Tower of Light' is a flue tower and façade enclosing the new Vital Energi CHP energy centre in Manchester's Civic Quarter.

As part of a £4.5 million project, the luxury ice cream brand Mackie's of Scotland will replace existing freezing equipment at its Aberdeenshire facility with an ammonia-based, low carbon, energy efficient refrigeration system from GEA that incorporates an Absorption Chiller – an innovative solution that will help Mackie's to target ambitious CO2 reductions of 90% and energy cost savings of 70-80%.

A French paper mill run by Smurfit Kappa has been chosen to participate in an innovative energy research project on renewable energy storage. The HYFLEXPOWER project will see Smurfit Kappa's Saillat Paper Mill become the first plant in the world to introduce an integrated hydrogen gas turbine demonstrator.
